The worship of Surya Dev and Chhatiya Maiya during this period is considered to be of special importance.


History of Chhath Puja

According to ancient legend there was a king named Priyamvad. He was married to a woman named Malini. Even after years of marriage, Priyamvad did not get children. Because of this he used to be very sad. He decided to get fame in consultation with Maharishi Kashyap for getting children.

Maharishi Kashyap gave the Kheer to the sacrifice of Yajna to the wife of King Priyamvad and with the effect of that Kheer, he got a son as a child. But the sad thing was that he was born dead. When the king decided to give up his life in disconnection, then Devasena, the psyche daughter of Brahma Ji appeared there and asked him to perform Chhath Vrat to bring the son alive.

With the effect of this fast, the son of King Priyamvada became alive. Since then, Chhath Puja is being celebrated. It is said that this is the sixth mother. They are called as sixth maiya because they originate from the sixth part of the original nature of the universe.
