What is Automation?

Hi friends,in this article we will know what is Industrial automation?

What are the types of automation along with the advantages?

Automation -:

It is the art of production, under which the production in an organization is easily regulated and controlled by using mechanical, electronic, and computer-based initiatives, it is called automation. Automation or automation is a set of techniques.

The word automation is derived from the Greek words auto and mattas, where auto means self and mattas means to move. Under automation, whatever actions we perform on machines are completed without human intervention. So we can say that automation is a system that operates on its own.

Types of Automation -:

1. Fixed Automation

2. Programmable Automation

3. Flexible Automation

1. Fixed Automation -:

When we fix the operation on the work piece on the basis of electronic configuration, then this type of machine is called Fixed Automation.

Depending on the structure of the work block, the order of various operations on it is determined. The operations on the work block are simple, but when the process of automation is adopted, then the whole work block is operated at the same time, then this undertaking becomes complex. it happens. That's why it is also called hard automation.

Characteristics of Fixed Automation:

● The initial cost of this automation process is very high.

● The production rate is high when this machine is used. Due to which the cost comes down a bit.

● When a new product is made or a new product is made by replacing an old one, the machine is almost out of use.

2. Programmable Automation -:

When a machine is directed by creating a program according to the sequence, then this process is called programmable automation. In this automation process, when a new product is made, the sequence of the process as well as the tool can be changed. Like Fixed Automation, the question of closure does not arise on this automation. In this automation, a new product program is created and set.

Characteristics of Programmable Automation -:

● The initial cost of this automation is high.

● More than one type of product can be created through this automation.

● This automation process is more commonly used for batch product making.

● In this the production rate is less than fixed automation but more than manual automation.

3. Flexible Automation -:

This automation process is an updated form of Fixed Automation. In flexible automation, more than one operation can be performed by creating new actions. It also does not require frequent changing of tools and fixtures. Thus, an automation process that does not require frequent replacement of tools and fixtures and reconfiguration of machines is called flexible automation.

Characteristics of Flexible Automation -:

● The initial cost of this automation is also high.

● Its production rate is less than Flexible Automation and more than Programmable Automation.

● Continuous production cannot be done with this automation.

● Through this, new products can be created easily, that is why this automation is being liked a lot nowadays.

Advantages of Automation -:

A) By adopting the process of automation, the chances of rejection of the work piece are reduced.

B) Automation increases the production rate of a product.

C) The quality of the product made is greatly improved and all the products are made to size.

D) Such complex processes are done by automation which cannot be possible by humans.

E) Production by adopting automation process reduces the chances of accident.

F) Automation can produce more and more production without stoppage. Which is not possible by humans.

Disadvantages of Automation -:

A) When machines start working by automatic method, less workers are required due to which unemployment starts increasing.

B) The cost of manufacturing complex workpieces is very high.

C) The workers doing the work do not get an opportunity to show their skill and workmanship. Due to which their skills start decreasing.

D) These machines are complex due to the presence of automation. Therefore, it is necessary to have a more experienced operator to set them up.

Applications of Automation -

: A) Automation is used when labor is less and not available.

B) Automation method is necessary when a more beautiful and accessible product is to be made.

C) Using automation makes the environment safer.

D) Automation is used to achieve high quality in the product.

E) Automation process is also adopted to reduce the labor cost.

F) Adoption of automation improves working conditions.

G) Automation is also necessary so that there is no excess scrap on the product.

H) Automation is also adopted for delivery in less time.
