Nagar Kirtan is taken out by the devotees early in the morning. People walk the streets offering beautiful hymns and prayers. Nagar Kirtan is led with a palanquin or palanquin of the Guru Granth Sahib. On Gurpurab, the festivities begin at 3 am during Amrit Vela or between 3 am and 6 am. Morning prayers are sung in praise of Guru Nanak followed by Katha and Kirtan. In some gurudwaras prayers are offered throughout the night.
