Children's Day 2022: Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru became the first Prime Minister of independent India. He loved children so much that he is also known as Chacha Nehru. This was the reason that the Parliament of India decided to celebrate his birthday on 14 November as Children's Day in India. He had immense love and respect for children and considered them the future of our country. Thus, November 14 was celebrated as Children's Day in India. Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru was born on 14 November 1889. He loved children very much. He also loved roses. That's why there was always a rose in his court pocket. He considered every child as the future of India so he believed that they should be treated well and educated.

Children's Day History, Importance

Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru had said in one of his famous speeches, "Today's children will be tomorrow's India. The way we bring them up will decide the future of the country." Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru died in the year 1964, and in his memory, the Parliament passed a resolution to establish his birthday as Children's Day celebration. Earlier, Children's Day in India was celebrated on 20 November.

• Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru belonged to a Pandit family of Kashmir. He had two sisters named Vijay Lakshmi Pandit (elder sister) and Krishna Hutheesingh (younger sister).
• Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru never received the Nobel Prize, although he was nominated 11 times between the years 1950 and 1955. Jawaharlal Nehru was nominated extensively for his peace work.
• After enrolling at Trinity College, Cambridge in 1907, Nehru obtained an Honors degree in Natural Science in the year 1910.
• He returned to India in August 1912 and tried to establish himself as a barrister by enrolling as an advocate in the Allahabad High Court.
• During the freedom struggle of the country, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru was sent to jail nine different times. In all, the British imprisoned Nehru for 3259 days, which was equivalent to 9 years of his life.
• He also wrote an autobiography in 1935 while in jail. It was named "Toward Freedom", which was released in the United States in 1936.
• Nehru became the President of the Congress in 1929 and played a major role in the ongoing freedom struggle, which was being led by the Congress.
• Pandit Nehru died of a heart attack on 27 May 1964 and around 1.5 million people witnessed his cremation.
• He was the first to propose complete national independence in the year 1927 and renounced all ties binding Indians to the British Empire, including the Indian Civil Service (ICS).
• Nehru also joined Annie Besant's Home Rule League as an activist in 1916.
