
In the Ludhiana Municipal Corporation, there has always been a mayor of the party which is in government in the state. In 1997, Akali government was formed under the leadership of Parkash Singh Badal in the state, then Apinder Singh Grewal became the mayor of Akali Dal in the city.

The eyes of the party are now on the chair of the mayor of the four major municipal corporations of the state. Before the civic elections to be held next year, the Aam Aadmi Party is preparing a plan to contest the elections by including bright and clean image councilors of other parties in the party. The leaders of the Aam Aadmi Party started making contact with the councilors of Congress, Akali Dal and Lok Insaaf Party. AAP leaders have so far contacted more than 15 councilors through different means. In Amritsar, the Aam Aadmi Party has included 16 councilors including the Mayor.

In 2002, when the Congress government was formed under the leadership of Captain Amarinder Singh, Nahar Singh Gill of Congress got the Mayor's chair. In 2007 and 12, the Akali Dal government was formed in the state, and in Ludhiana too, Hakam Singh Gyaspura and Harcharan Singh Gohalbaria of Akali got the Mayor's chair for two consecutive terms.
Balkar Sandhu is mayor since 2017
When the Congress government was formed in 2017, Congress leader Balkar Singh Sandhu was made the mayor in the corporation. This time the Aam Aadmi Party government was formed for the first time in the state and local body elections are to be held early next year. In such a situation, the Aam Aadmi Party has also started trying to repeat the old record. AAP MLAs have now prepared a plan to play bets on the opposition councilors by including them in the party on the lines of the assembly elections.
Congress councilors claim - calls are coming
A Congress councilor from Halka Atma Nagar, on the condition of anonymity, said that he got a call from a leader of Aam Aadmi Party and said that if you want to join AAP, then tell you you will get the councilor's ticket. So far 15 councilors of Congress have given their consent.
